1792 Birch Cent reproduction

This is a reproduction of the 1792 “Birch Cent” designed and engraved by Birch (first name is still unknown) as a pattern for our first one cent coins. It carries an edge inscription “TO BE ESTEEMED * BE USEFUL” and contained one cent worth of copper. It’s about the size of a modern half Dollar. The size was reduced to what we now know as the “large cent” size to allow for production costs.

All of our reproductions at Gallery Mint were produced to the exact same size, weight, and material as the original issues. Struck on hand sunk dies using a screw press. Reproduced all the way down to the decorative and lettered edges. The only way for a reproduction to be as close to the original as possible is to make the exactly like the originals.
