This is a rare type of concept dollar created in haste as a third design option in Ron’s pursuit to get the nod for the new dollar design. Representative Michael Castle rejected his Classic Liberty Head design in favor of the Statue of Liberty type because he felt it was a more recognizable emblem of Liberty. In an attempt to modernize Miss Liberty, Ron felt that he could achieve the recognizable feature simply by incorporating the same Diadem as seen on the Statue. It was a somewhat desperate attempt at trying to please the design committee who’s minds we’re already set on using Sacajawea as the subject for the new coin. Not the best design of the series but definitely the most rare.
